HOW DID THE RIVER JUNGLE MARATHON 2010 COME ABOUT?

It all started when the founder of The Marathon Shop missed the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010. Feeling a little left out, a little crazy and with screws a little loose, he decided to run a full marathon distance a week after SCMKL 2010 anyway!

Little James didn’t like running alone, so he did the sanest thing he could think off… create a event page on Facebook and see if there are any other crazy people out there interested about doing this with him!

There were 5 crazy people, and on 4th July 2010, we ran the Inaugura
l KL-PJ-KL Interstate 2010 Marathon. A week later, news spread and we were known as the 5 loco runners who ran our own marathon. The Marathon Shop was asked by runners from as far north as Penang and as far south as Singapore, when are we doing something like this again!

Hence, The River Jungle Marathon 2010 was born…

WHY THE RIVER JUNGLE MARATHON 2010?
We believe running should be fun; it shouldn’t be all about how fast we can run.
The River Jungle Marathon is not a race. There is no big prize money at the finish line, no medals, no award giving ceremony. It’s simply for runners who find joy of just being able to run!

WHERE DO WE START / END?

The race will begin next to the Police Station Batu 18, Hulu Langat. (or Balai Polis Bt. 18, Hulu Langat) It will end, at the same place.

THE ROUTE
The first thing you need to know is that you will be running a full marathon distance. It’s 42.195 km (or a little more), and there is no other distance. It is, not for the faint of heart.
The River Jungle Marathon is a road run (all asphalt, and no, it’s not a trail run). The route will take you through the scenic villages of Hulu Langat leading you up a 1000 feet climb or about 2.5KM of non-stop uphill running, past valleys, rivers, mountain views, jungle, a hot spring, and even monkeys. Yes, monkeys (if you’re lucky).
It won’t be easy, but if you’re a nature lover who likes getting away from the usual hustle and bustle of a city road race then this will be exactly what you will be looking for!

RACE TECHNICALITY

First thing first:
 THIS IS NOT A RACE!
There is nothing technical about it. SO what is we run 43KM or 41KM, we will still be running right? Of course, we will do our best to ensure it gets as close to 42.195 KM as possible.

HOW WILL WE DO THIS?

The run will be divided into 3 pacer groups.

There will be a 5 hour group, 6 hour group and a 7 hour group. You may fall back into the subsequent group throughout the run.

Each of these groups will be supported by 2 cars. The first car will be leading the way with the needs and hydration of each runner. The second car will be driving behind the last runner. This is precautionary just in case a runner needs a lift, gets sick, injured or etc.

WHAT IS THE FALL BACK SYSTEM?

It is a group run divided into 3 pacer groups. There will be a 5 hour pacer, 6 hour pacer and a 7 hour pacer. You choose which group you want to be in when you sign up, and along the way, if you think it is too fast for you, you can Fall Back to the next group. What does this mean? If you are in the 7 hour group and you want to give up along the way, we hope you won’t, but if you must… you can hop into the safety car.

Let’s say, you start in the 5 hour group and throughout the way you think it’s a little too hard. You can therefore, slow down and wait for the 6 hour group and join them. There is no time limit, so you can just enjoy the run and the people running with you. It will be a good training session for those wanting to go long and longing some company, or for those who simply just want to make some new friends!

Thought:
This is going to be an excited running event! Ultimately running 6 hours with a group of runners, you will know them well when you have finished your marathon distance.

Yes. im registered.
