Sundown UltraMarathon 2013 - 14 September 2013

I got to know this, Sundown UltraMarathon 2013 is back! Sundown UltraMarathon 100KM was my virgin Ultra race back in 2011 June. It's was my stepping stone to other ultra races since then.

Date: 14 September 2013.
Will i join again this year?

It's a difficult question for me. Back in 2011, i joint because of 1 undisclosed reason. While that was back in 2011, the reason no longer valid. 1 undisclosed reason lead to surprises in my running life since then. I falls in love with trail running and joint two ultra trail races back in 2011 and 2012. While this year, i'm also planning another ultra trail races...

it's all about trail race. I'm not sure whether im still in for the road race. I'm just not sure anymore.

btw, im just realized, i never blog about my Sundown UltraMarathon experience... =.='''

FlyScoot.com & iPad in budget airlines!

Was watching Bloomberg when i'm back at home. Then saw the news on launching of Scoot Airlines, the new budget airlines from Singapore Airlines which strip off everything, no LCD panel at back of seat like many other airlines but offer iPAD for rent!

Today 4th June 2012, Monday Fly Scoot have its inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney Australia. That's why Fly Scoot is in Bloomberg news!

Flying medium-haul on a budget flight does not have to be a drag.

Singapore's first low-cost, long-haul carrier Scoot will offer iPads pre-loaded with movies and TV shows for rent on board their flights.

The iPads come with extra battery packs and a stand so that passengers can watch movies without having to hold it throughout the flight.

For those who prefer to use their own iPad or electronic device, chief executive Mr Campbell Wilson said that Scoot will be launching a wireless onboard server for passengers to access onboard data with their personal device.

"Our intention is to allow people to use their device as much as possible. It saves us money as we don't have to provide one but it also gives people greater choice of entertainment," said Mr Wilson.

However, movie studios at this stage do not allow first release movies to be streamed wirelessly to a device, so passengers who are using their own iPad will not be able to view certain movies onboard.

All frills like iPads, meals, wider seats with more leg more and baggage allowance are chargeable.

Ticket sales for the new carrier have exceeded the 100,000 mark, one day before its inaugural flight to Sydney on June 4.

Scoot currently flies to four destinations - Sydney, Gold Coast, Tianjin and Bangkok, and its average fare costs 40 per cent less than those of full-service airlines. Two more routes will be added by the end of this year.

The airline is eyeing destinations in China and India next.

Twilight Ultra Challenge 2012 Race report

I'm almost can't make it to starting point of Twilight Ultra Challenge on 11 March 2012, Sunday morning 12:00am as I forget to bring my passport out ! I'm only realised i forget to bring my passport with me when i'm reaching bus station at Bangsar for 2:30pm bus to Singapore.

Panic mode for few seconds. Cool down, relax, brain start to thinks. I need to go back home to take my passport, i only left 45 mins to departure. It's terrible jam on Saturday noon. Wont able to make it. So instead rushing back home straight away, i decided proceed walk to bus office, to put down my luggage and ask for next bus available to Singapore. Phew, there's another trip to Singapore in 2 hours time, which is 4:30pm. Okay, 2:30pm bus ticket is burnt and buy another new one.

Took LRT back home and come out reaching back at bus office around 4:00pm. Bus depart at 4:30pm sharp. No one was with me. Enjoying #foreveralone movement all the way till Singapore. Traffic jam, raining on the way, and managed to reached Singapore around 10:30pm. Took MRT to Pasir Ris and cab to reach at East Coast Park around 11:20pm. Still have some time for change and prepare.

Finally have chance to photo with Ada Suka. Met him for second time, as 1st time was at HK100.

Ben, the race director of Twilight Ultra Challenge.

It's just started, i'm start to take photo. I'm were so hungry, i'm planning to have Burger King when flagged off. Sad to know that Burger King was located at opposite direction where we flagged off. I will be only passby Burger at 7KM point. So i "tahan" my hungry-ness...

Run...Run...Run...

Finally got my Burger King refuel...

Coke drink! Awesome
Twilight Ultra Challenge was just 3 weeks after HK100 and i'm only ran 4km in the Saturday morning with RunnersMalaysia group and that's it my training for TUC. My knee was sore so bad until it's took more than usual period to recover. Weird thing was, the 4KM run with RunnersMalaysia group giving me feel good and green light to run more mileages! But it's seem not the case. My knee start to feel pain just after 4KM in TUC. But still i continue to run / walk...

Name on the list!

Full range of Hammer Nutrition!
Weird thing i noticed, i'm only get to know Hammer nutrition brand when i'm start cycling. It's been selling in bike shop which i found it's really helps in my cycling. Moreover, i managed to use Hammer nutrition in my HK100 run! hehe... Now you know how i can achieve 23 hours timing in HK100 !

Innov8 - quite new in running community in SG and hardly seen in Malaysia.

Photo taken by Mohan Marathon. Thanks Mohan.
I was on full SKINS compression top and tight to prepare for TUC.

Yeah... we concurred TUC...

Oh yeah! i did not mention how many KMs i completed in Twilight Ultra Challenge right?
See below!

yay! i completed my Twilight Ultra Challenge with 15KM clocked. No need to feel shame.
At least i know I'm not yet fully recover from HK100.

Twilight Ultra Challenge 2012

Last year, the Twilight Ultra Challenge (TUC) is a stranger race / challenge to me.
I'm just focus on my Sundown Ultra.
Since after Sundown Ultra, any Ultra races / Challenge I'm quite aware of it as I have confidence on my ability to complete the challenge unlike last year.

Twilight Ultra Challenge is not a race, but rather a challenge to myself.
btw, before that i got a confession to make.
"I have not run a single KM since HK100"
Guess, i'm tired of Foreveralone Ultra training. Giving myself a break on running.

But, when I'm registered for TUC, i never thought of my current situation. I know I'm going to challenge myself as at that point of time, I'm on ultra running fever!

So, TUC, no benchmark being set, just run walk crawl for minimum of 6-7 hours having my Burger King meal break, and McD meal break in between when feels hungry...
Life is not about just running!

Looking forward to test my new found Hammer nutrition!

Wonder what number will i get ....!
Some figures about TUC:
210 Registered Participants
164 Individual Participants
14 Teams with 46 Participants
Almost 2,000 litres of water
1,000 Bananas
10 Watermelons
10,000 Cups
Uncountable sweat, tears... and some blood :)

Good luck to all TUC participants!

This is not the first time i heard about runner dies after running a half marathon. If you still remember, similar case also happened in KL.

Runners should learn listen to body, stop running when you are feeling something weird on muscles, breath, chest and etc etc...
Runners also should learn about their body whether do their fitness / conditions allow them to start running. Some who have asthma are advised to seek doctor advice before start running, even in running, much pre-caution need to take note.

RIP to the runner.

2011 The North Face 100 - TNF100

Last few days saw this 2011 The North Face 100 poster on my facebook feed.
Im always heard my running friend mentioning about this TNF100 but im not really know any details about it.
TNF is another kind of running mind game which totally different from what's im doing now in running a road race marathon.

TNF is a trail running and its not easy to run in trail where you go hike up hills and run on muddy road.

The rules and regulations always become straighter and a lots of rules have to follow. The cut of time for 100km duo is 9 hours ( Time for 1 runner to run 50km).

My normal 42km marathon timing is around 5 hours to 6 hours, but 9 hours for 50km.. This is so challenging !
The TNF for 2011 in Singapore falls on 15 Oct 2011. Registration open on coming 16 May 2011.
This is interesting. hmmm...

Sundown Ultra Marathon 2011 - Route

Singapore, February 7, 2011 — The organisers of the Sundown Marathon confirmed the routes for the 100km ultramarathon today.
The 100km city race will take runners from the start point at Marina Bay down to Kallang before hitting East Coast Park. Runners will then make their way along Changi Coast Road before reaching Pasir Ris Park. The final leg of the race will see runners make a U-turn at Bedok Reservoir Park before heading back to Marina Bay.
Since registration opened last November, more than 720 runners have already signed up for the Sundown Ultra Marathon, which is expected to attract about 1,000 participants. All runners of this elite distance will have to carry a hydration pack and complete the distance within the 16-hour cut-off mark. There will be hydration top-up stations every 10km and food supply stations after the 40km mark.
The fourth edition of the Sundown Marathon will take place over two days for the first time. The 42km marathon will be run on May 28, 2011, about one month before the Sundown Ultra Marathon.
Participants of the 42km marathon will race along the eastern area of Singapore and will be flagged off at Changi Exhibition Centre.
A new 10km category for men will be introduced for the first time at the event as well while running equipment brand New Balance has also signed on as the apparel sponsor for the race this year.
A total of 25,000 participants have signed up for all the categories so far, beating last year’s total of 19,500.
Benjamin Wee, the general manager of HiVelocity Pte Ltd, the organisers, said: “The Sundown Marathon and Ultra Marathon have once again proven to be among the region’s most eagerly anticipated races. With participation growing year on year, we aim to provide a smooth and enjoyable night race experience for all runners by splitting the dates of the events.”
“With the new city route and 100km race category, we aim to give runners a unique running experience as they celebrate their passion for running during Singapore’s biggest night race,” he added.
