Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride 2012/2013 Day 1

31 Dec 2012

Malakoff Interstates Fellowship Ride 2012/2013

Time: 7:00am
Distance: 180KM

I never joins Malakoff Penang interstates before. Thus I decided to join this year. With off season in cycling and back to training 2 weeks before today, I'm successful complete 180KM without any problems!

No problems on bike nor gears nor tyre ! I'm physically and mentally managed to complete with so called "Honeymoon" ride pace. At one point, I'm feel like sleepy & boring!

It's 180KM with 3 stops. It's speed controlled ride. A maroon color pajero leads us. The starting point for this year begins at Bagan Jamal R&R area.
Guess many were disappointed when found out this year no Penang Bridge crossing. The 1st 60KM, some Padi field scenes, palm oil estate and importantly we rode past my hometown which is Serdang Kedah. We have our 1st stop at Caltex, Selama Perak. The next 60KM, and we still will return to the same Caltex for second stop. I never aware or know that, Selama side Perak have some awesome cycling route with some hills that can makes my heart go excited since I'm mostly on honeymoon pace with 1st peloton !

It's not too bad the 1st 60KM I achieve average speed of 31KM/Hr! I was drafting behind the first peloton all the way! Now you know why I called this "Honeymoon" Ride! Haha

In the last 40KM, I'm with the first peloton, the speed were increasing slowly from 25km/Hr plus to 30km/Hr plus... During last 10KM, suddenly "boom" sous heard! It's was one of the cyclist tyre blow! Then after that suddenly front peloton shouting SLOW ! It's seem two cyclists fell and 1 of them were at middle of road! He quickly got up, trying his best to stand up back, he try to grab his sunglasses I think and we were so fast that can't stop in time trying our best to avoid hitting him! Thank god, I'm just few CM away from his wheel! Then we continue as normal...

When we hits the highway, there's cyclists start to sprint and our speed hits 40km/Hr and above! Too bad, no one can draft with, I can't breakaway like others, just try maintains my speed around 35km/Hr...

The whole journey ends around 2.00pm plus. Basically my body wet for 7 hours! Hand dah kedut!
Checked out when I arrived, collected my goodies bag and jersey! After that quickly grab lunch to refuel. I'm still feel fresh!

After had my lunch, I followed Giant cyclists pedal back to Penang via ferry...

Thanks for the treat on ferry by S-Works Venge McLaren rider!

Back to hostel, cleaned my bike, my gears, my jersey and walked to nearby Penang road for famous Cendol and some other foods!

Regards,
Chin Ann

Team Magnum on NanYang news 060512

News about roadbike or rather interview about roabike which conducted by NanYang newspaper.
It's interview on Team Magnum.

In this activity, Team Magnum invited 2 V.I.P, they are from PCC president Don Chan and vice president Alvin Chan. We all know who are them, Don Chan & Alvin Chan! Both of them are the engine behind Inter-State 2012 recently! Okay, i know them, they might not know me.  haha...

Don Chan & Alvin was invited to attend Team Magnum's activity. Their attendance to the gathering boasted morale and motivation among cyclists.

Roadbike in Malaysia are slowly getting popular in the community. PCC was established as non-profit organization 5 years ago with objective of promoting cycling activities and raising awareness on safety of cycling to the public.  At that time, the hype of riding roadbike were influenced by oversea city like Taiwan.

Although the cycling activities are getting popular in Malaysia, but the road condition are not perfect, or not cycling friendly more over lack of proper cycling lane in city.

Beside safety traffic awareness, cyclist also need to have self safety awareness too example wearing safety helmet.

What you should do when you found yourselves lack of energy to continue cycling? Stop and rest at road side for a while. If you're continue cycling ignoring your weak body status, it's will be dangerous and possible you might be faint at roadside. If there's incoming car on the road, the driver will not able to respond in time to break and might be hitting the cyclist. Normally, they did not encourage cyclist to cycling along on dark condition route and you might encounter robber to rob your precious bike and money. A cyclist must know how to behave, respect and protect themselves, that's important criteria to a quality cyclist.

Cycling - November 2011

Cycling, cycling always my childhood activities back at hometown. I cycled to school, cycle around villages and sometime will try to explore kampung road. It's was just plain exploration and excitement when jump on bicycle.
As growing up, the need for speed grow. During secondary school time, i got the most expensive mountain bike in town to ride! Feel so good with 21 speeds. Almost everyday, cycle up side down in my hometown...
After secondary school, left hometown for study in Penang, since then hardly ride on bicycle.
Just when back at hometown only have chances to ride.
Cycling time almost become zero over the years...
In 2009, i get to know my old man colleague is a passionate cyclist ! It's was a good enjoyable able to chat with him about bikes. Learning from him piece by piece.
While at that time, my friend also have interested to start cycling. So i'm were gathering information about bikes.

I even borrowed my old man's cycling magazine to scan and sent it to my friend for reference.

Guess i'm so excited about cycling with my friend.

But i never realised that whatever shown in magazine are huge different from the real world outside plus the affordability of a entry level roadbike.

The figure on magazine is quoted in USD...

Anyway, it's just for reference and for knowledge.

Since 2009, I'm been getting information about roadbike.
It's always talk about cycling with my old man colleague. He shares every single bikes information and cycling news. Yet, he never push me to get a roadbike plus i'm still waiting for my friend.

Old man colleagues retires last year August 2011. From 2009 until 2011, i'm been getting feeding bikes information. In 2009, I went Taiwan, and i got myself a helmat, a CatEye speed meter, a small hand pump, hand glove which i'm anticipate im going to start cycling soon, some where 2010.

Nothing is concluded in 2010 as waiting for friend. Still waiting. In 2011, I completed my Sundown Ultra 100KM and completed another 100KM TMBT ultra. Friend no respond. Thank to my old man ex-colleague tips, i managed to get the roadbike which suite me after all these long period of getting feeding on bike info.

In November 2011, I'm officially start my cycling journey.

The rest is history. No turning back. Looking forward to my 1st ever major cycling event - 3 days Inter-State 2012. :)

Revolights - Kickstarter

I was looking for lighting system for my bike where i'm planning to have evening cycling after sky is dark.
Been looking for cheap China made option till the expensive lighting yet it's look not that promising and it's normal. It's not something that interest me by looking at it online.

Somehow, i'm came to this Revolight project in kickstarter. It's an awesome lighting system that makes me feel excited about it! I wanted to get it when i'm 1st saw it.

Amazing right!

Amazing is one thing. So automatically the next thing to look for is the price tag. It's really turn off for me, at least as a Malaysian, it's not yet in the market, but scheduled to launch in late June 2012 with a price tag of USD220 plus international shipping of USD30.

Those who contribute in Kickstarter paid USD200 with international shipping USD30. They will be the first batch users receiving Revolights when it's ready.
