Penang Ultra 100 - 2014

End of 2013 or early of 2014, the Penang Ultra 100 first surfaced in facebook page when Penang Ultra 100 created an event. Saw few of my running friends clicked "like".

Running around Penang island something new, something that never have people doing it before. Something interesting to consider to join.

Today's the event become official and endorsed by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Read, read and read. The killer part is the Penang Hill ! 5km over 670 meter elevations ! It's sound challenging !

To-date, Malaysian Ultra race i ever joint were TMBT 2011 held in Kota Kinabalu, where i paid RM300. After that, there's no 100KM ultra race in peninsular Malaysia. Now, 2014, there's Ultra road race in Penang that cost RM260 (early bird) and i suddenly felt expensive. *facepalm* Where's the kick! Previously joining HK100, TNF100 Philippines i paid without hesitate nor heart feeling heavy!

Perhap i know Penang too well? I think i just need a person to fire up the flame and push me into the hell.
Perhap i no longer likes road race? I only joint Sundown 100 road race as my first Ultra Marathon in 2011.

I... I.. I been planning and thinking of blogging my Penang year end trip 2012 / 2013 since the day i back at KL on 1st Jan 2013. Somehow, i can squeeze out time to blog about it.

My previous blog on G.Nuang took me 3 nights of installments to upload 50 photos and finish it... so i thought i can do so with my upcoming blog entries which i wanted to blog since Dec 17.... which i must blog and share my experience with others.

The Famous Kuay Teow Th'ng at Hutton Road !!!

It's already famous, plus when you had cycled round island for 80KM, the famous Kuay Teow Th'ng instantly upgraded become my world tasty food !

Food without drink is not complete!
100 Plus are my best companion drink after sport!

Not many people when im were there... lucky me!

Friendly boss...

Hutton Road - A road that i always passby when i was in penang back then.
The famous kuay teow th'ng is located at Hutton Road. Parking might be a problem, but if you lucky, u can park in front of the shop! :)

  To be continue.

Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride 2012/2013 Day 1

31 Dec 2012

Malakoff Interstates Fellowship Ride 2012/2013

Time: 7:00am
Distance: 180KM

I never joins Malakoff Penang interstates before. Thus I decided to join this year. With off season in cycling and back to training 2 weeks before today, I'm successful complete 180KM without any problems!

No problems on bike nor gears nor tyre ! I'm physically and mentally managed to complete with so called "Honeymoon" ride pace. At one point, I'm feel like sleepy & boring!

It's 180KM with 3 stops. It's speed controlled ride. A maroon color pajero leads us. The starting point for this year begins at Bagan Jamal R&R area.
Guess many were disappointed when found out this year no Penang Bridge crossing. The 1st 60KM, some Padi field scenes, palm oil estate and importantly we rode past my hometown which is Serdang Kedah. We have our 1st stop at Caltex, Selama Perak. The next 60KM, and we still will return to the same Caltex for second stop. I never aware or know that, Selama side Perak have some awesome cycling route with some hills that can makes my heart go excited since I'm mostly on honeymoon pace with 1st peloton !

It's not too bad the 1st 60KM I achieve average speed of 31KM/Hr! I was drafting behind the first peloton all the way! Now you know why I called this "Honeymoon" Ride! Haha

In the last 40KM, I'm with the first peloton, the speed were increasing slowly from 25km/Hr plus to 30km/Hr plus... During last 10KM, suddenly "boom" sous heard! It's was one of the cyclist tyre blow! Then after that suddenly front peloton shouting SLOW ! It's seem two cyclists fell and 1 of them were at middle of road! He quickly got up, trying his best to stand up back, he try to grab his sunglasses I think and we were so fast that can't stop in time trying our best to avoid hitting him! Thank god, I'm just few CM away from his wheel! Then we continue as normal...

When we hits the highway, there's cyclists start to sprint and our speed hits 40km/Hr and above! Too bad, no one can draft with, I can't breakaway like others, just try maintains my speed around 35km/Hr...

The whole journey ends around 2.00pm plus. Basically my body wet for 7 hours! Hand dah kedut!
Checked out when I arrived, collected my goodies bag and jersey! After that quickly grab lunch to refuel. I'm still feel fresh!

After had my lunch, I followed Giant cyclists pedal back to Penang via ferry...

Thanks for the treat on ferry by S-Works Venge McLaren rider!

Back to hostel, cleaned my bike, my gears, my jersey and walked to nearby Penang road for famous Cendol and some other foods!

Chin Ann

Trail Running @ Penang with NB MT110

Trail running @ Penang

29 Dec 2012.

Finally I got my New Balance MT110 trail shoe and so happens I got it on the day I go penang.

Never cross my mind that first thing to do when I reach Penang is to do a trail running starting from Youth Park !

Youth Park were my play ground during my college time in Penang. I trains for my Penang Bridge Half marathon, I alway hike up to Points 3 and Points 5 and whats most enjoyable was joining the public aerobic exercises at the field ! Its where i learn all the movements! The Aerobic exercise still available as I seen yesterday!

In my memory, in my last hike up to Points 3 & 5 memory, it's was really long long time ago! Yesterday I'm ran up to point 3 & 5, it's just took me some 25 mins! The conditions of trail are improved, cleaner now. Basically walks in the park sort of feel.

It's good to be able revisit back after so long!

Penang is hidden's gem for trail running.

Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride 2012/2012

As cycling community aware, Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride 1,000 slots were sold out less than 12 hours from the time of registration were open.

While im lucky enough my friend not able to attend and i'm replacing his slot.

Okay. This is my first time joining Malakoff Penang Interstate ride. It's not a race, just like my perception of PCC interstate ride.

This year route, there's no Penang bridge ride. No ferry charter thingy as i can read from the Malakoff event facebook. it's doesnt matter. There's come an issue. As the starting point somewhere 4.9km away from the Butterworth jetty, and the 1st ferry available is 0530am while registration for checks in open from 0530 until 0645am and 0700am flag off.

Google map shows its only 4.9km, 5 min if by car.

As cyclist, as part of P2K gang, i'm used to cycle from home to the starting point to meet up with others and begin our ride. Since i'm staying in the downtown Penang, it's very near to Penang Jetty, thus this will be my only way to starting point after much consideration and some calculated risk take into consideration.
0530 - board ferry
0600 - reach at Butterworth Jetty and start cycle
0630 - reach at starting point ! what's an awesome estimate! wahaha.... syok sendiri although the estimation might not be accurate.

I hope there's also other Penang cyclists have the same thought as me. No point for me to drive to Butterworth via Penang bridge where i'm detour a big big round and worse it's really not environmental friendly when we are cyclist.

See you all on 31 Dec 2012.

Cycling going to be last thing to do in 2012 and it's also going to be first thing to do in 2013. :)

End.

Penang @ Art by Ernest Zacharevic !

Was busy preparing for SCKLM.. never really surf FB and checks out the updates. But then, this photo got my attention which shared by friend. Godzilla.Kid.motor.

The original photo...

Ernest Zacharevic rock Penang with his art ! When my next visit to Penang, i shall visit all these places! Penang road cendol come second. haha...
